Exclusive Interview with Emerging Designer Eryka Becker of Angels N Divas

The new emerging Angels N Divas label is only a year old and designer Eryka Becker has started a fashion phenomenon!!!!  RAW Fashion Magazine is proud to introduce this hot new designer and work with pieces made exclusively for our most recent photo shoot!!! 

What would you say would be one of the most rewarding experiences for you at this stage?

 The most rewarding thing is that everyone I show my collection to LOVES it.  This validates me as a designer and makes me want to continue designing season after season!!! 

The Angels N Divas label is still growing and expanding.  What is next for you and what do you aspiring to do with this label?

I want to grow Angels & Divas into a lifestyle brand. I did a clothing collection, due to not having the resources to take this collection into production; I have decided to dedicate my self to designing and growing the jewelry line. The jewelry line started off with just feathered earrings, for fall you will see my necklaces and bracelets. 

You are also a mother of three young children, how do you balance your career and home life?

I probably don’t get enough sleep. I make sure to make time for my family. I like to stay busy so if I am not fussing over the kids, I am working on a new design. The reason I decided to start this company was because I wanted to make sure I could work around my kids’ schedule.

Your feathered creations are very dramatic.  What would you say was your biggest inspiration in designing these particular pieces?

I am all about being different. When I first started designing this collection I had all ready been making the feathered earrings for some time. I did not see any feathered garments in the market and I thought it would be cool to have a feathered dress. I like to mix interesting textures, with patterns. The first piece I created for my collection was the pink feathered dress, after that my collection came to life. 

Where do you find your materials?

I am so lucky to live in NYC. Even though the garment district is under threat, due to the fact that everything is being manufactured over seas, we still have great resources. I always have my eyes open. I tend to pick fabrics and trims that catch my eye. I bring it home and the creating commences. 

Why the feather influence and detail as opposed to something say like intricate lace?

I am just obsessed with feathers; I think they are just the coolest thing. I have been lucky that I can find them in so many great colors. Fashion Should Be Fun!

Describe your most current collection in two words?

Bright & Freeing

What are some of your favorite pieces so far and why?

It would have to be my pink feathered dress.  I was drawn to the fabric the moment I saw it.  It's a fun garment to look at.

The item I am wearing the most from my collection would be  “Venues”. They are Bright Red fluffy and long feathered Earrings. They just fit my personality so well. 

Outside of fashion design, what are some of your hobbies?

I am so busy creating and trying to get my company to the next level I don’t really have time for hobbies. If I am not making something for my line, I like to be out with my girlfriends eating good food and enjoying their company. 

Who would you love to see wearing your garments and jewelry?

I have been very lucky and had Selita Ebanks wearing a pair of my earrings for BET Rip The Runway show. Also Olivia from the show Love & Hip-Hop wore a pair that was featured in Black women’s Style report magazine, June/July Issue. All the New Jersey House wives have at least one item from my latest collection. Most recently Jessica & Britney from the new show Glam Fairies have been wearing my newest collection while filming the show. I would love to get Vanessa Hugens in a pair of my feathered earrings. I think she would really like mine. I would also like to see the character Ari from Pretty Little Liars rocking my jewelry.

Are you interested in working with any other markets around the world?  If so, what are your global interests?

I would love to work with any global market that embraces Angels N Divas

What are you future goals and visions for your line or is this just a hobby for you?

I want my line to grow. I would love to design a handbag line and shoes. I am going to try and go as far as I can with my brand. I would love to open a boutique in the future where I can sell my designs and feature designs of the new up incoming designers. I think it is so important to support all these small labels that are doing innovative designing.
